BITE Annual Convocation 2008
a programme of appreciation, entertainment and dinner

Last Wednesday, 17th December, 2008, the First Convocation of the British Institute of Technology and E-Commerce (BITE) in the Crick Hall at Avicenna House.  Attended by 180 people, the main purpose was to award those students who recently graduated an extra certificate marking their hard work and outstanding academic success in the fields of the MBA Innovative Management (Ya Ping Ho and Rana Muhammad Bilal), the MSc in Innovative Technology (Swetha Rajender and Tony Joseph) and the BSc in Technology and E-Commerce (Manpreet Kaur and Mufaddal Habib) respectively.  A special award, the Level 7 of the Executive Diploma in Management was made to Muhammad Aamir Awan.  The Best Research Paper Award went to Professor Gilles Richard.

Guest speakers were Lord Nazir Ahmed and the Civil Mayor of Newham, Councillor Akbar Chaudhary. After an introduction by the Institute’s Director, Dr Mohammd Farmer, Lord Ahmed stressed the need for students to maintain hope and ambition, despite the current economically difficulties, and to keep pursuing their career goals.   Councillor Chaudhary assured the audience that Newham will benefit from the forthcoming Olympic-inspired programme of regeneration of the Newham area.  The message was clear that now is not the time to hold back on achieving academic excellence.

Entertainment was provided by the duo, ‘BITEBAND’, put together for the occasion and made up of the Mr Peter Robinson on electric guitar and Mr Jason Stone on bass and the Akwa Ibom Cultural Dance troupe.

A successful evening ended with a multi-dish curry buffet.  This was indeed a prestigious event, one that served as a reminder of how far BITE has come in such a short space of time and how much it promises for the future.
