Seminar on Overseas Students' Contribution in UK (Focus Pakistan) :
Professor Qasim Jan, vice chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, visited the British Institute of Technology and E-commerce (BITE) to sign a cooperation agreement and speak at a seminar “Overseas Students’ Contribution in the UK – Focus Pakistan.”
The Deputy High Commissioner for Pakistan, Mr Asif Durrani also spoke at the seminar. Mr Durrani outlined Pakistan’s plans to increase the number of matriculating students from 53% to 85% by 2015. A high proportion of BITE’s students are from Pakistan and Mr Durrani emphasized the importance of students from Pakistan gaining international experience from study overseas.
Professor Qasim Jan, a world renown geologist, spoke on “Gem stones of Pakistan: the natural phenomenon of the Earth.” He reviewed the latest research on rock formation and Pakistan’s rich resources of gem stones. During his stay in London, Professor Quasim Jan also received an honorary degree from King’s College, London where he completed his PhD.
Dr Muhammad Farmer, director of BITE signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Professor Quasim Jan, the vice chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad covering co-operation in Nanotechnology, IT and Management Sciences. BITE has recently introduced new Masters and first degrees, including courses covering Law, Banking and Finance and nano technology.
Dr Farmer said “Students from Quaid-i-Azam University will be encouraged to come and study for part of their course at BITE. The two universities aim to facilitate the development of students with the knowledge and confidence to work internationally and becoming the leading managers and academics in their disciplines in a global context.”
