BITE Induction September 09 |

14th September 2009 - British Institute of Technology & E-commerce Induction
British Institute of Technology & E-commerce Induction Day for Sep-09 Session:
The first day of the new academic year saw an Induction Day for over five hundred students at BITE. Crick Hall was packed – all seats taken – for a comprehensive introduction to the Institute and what it has to offer. Some prominent speakers were at hand to show what a unique place BITE is to study at and to launch a promising career from.
Firstly, the Principal, Dr Mohammed Farmer, welcomed the new intake and wished them well in their chosen programme of study. Dr Farmer also stressed the need for students to apply themselves rigorously to their studies. At this time of economic crisis and restricted job opportunities, employers were looking for that ‘something extra’ in the applications of people seeking work. The degree courses offered by BITE – the MBA programme in particular – provide opportunities for students to demonstrate that what is learned in the lecture room can be effectively applied to the real world of business outside class. The scope of knowledge available at BITE can provide a distinct advantage to students with the willingness to apply themselves.
This was reiterated by the next speaker, Professor Les Hobson, BITE’s Director of Education and Research. He emphasised the quality of the research carried out here and how this complemented the expertise of the staff who work hard to deliver courses that are interesting and applicable to real-life situations. Students would benefit enormously if they actively participated in their courses of study.
Professor Don Harper, BITE’s Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs, spoke of the Institute’s unique place within the British Higher Education system. It gains much of its strength through its partnerships with other centres of learning. Two representatives of these – Alexis Solomon from the University of East London and Terry Byers from Coventry University – confirmed this and added that BITE’s students were welcome to use the extensive facilities for learning on offer at their respective institutes.
Sir Adrian Webb stated that BITE’s place in the British Higher education system was guaranteed through the rigorous application of quality standards. Students could be assured that they were receiving the best education made available by a system dedicated to improving the level of service it offers.
There were other talks from members of staff about what BITE has to offer students – Information Technology facilities and Student Advice and Support. Afterwards, students went to designated rooms to get further information about their individual courses.
We hope that students will enjoy their stay here and will profit from the hard work they will doubtless put into their studies. They will soon understand that BITE means business!
