When it comes to equipment, BITE has spared no expense. BITE has state of the art computers and laptops in the centre with the latest cutting edge software applications. The institute is committed to the practical exploitation of teaching and learning technology on all its courses. At BITE's Avicenna House Campus, there are five computer laboratories, containing more than 400 PCs, most of them with flat screen TFT monitors. A whole spectrum of software including office tools, compilers, browsers, as well as specialist database, data mining, and systems analysis/design software are installed on all machines. All the client machines have Windows Operating Systems and there are postscript laser printers and line printers in all labs. A number of Linux servers provide file storage, domain-wide services, databases and web development tools as well as other commercial or public domain packages.
When registering a course with BITE, you will get free access to all these facilities
- Online plagiarism prevention system "Turnitin"
- Online journals on EBSCO Host
- free access to our E-learning system NETED
All these facilities are managed by the Institute's system support group.
As well as the computing facilities, BITE students get access to learning resource centres which house a myriad of different literature including text books and journals. The library has been carefully selected to cover the specific areas related to the courses run at BITE.
Any registered student of BITE can use the library facilities. The students need to register his or her details with the librarian in order to do so. To register, the students need to produce their ID cards and fee receipts. The library is open with normal Institute opening hours.
BITE has a rich, cohesive and focused library service. The Institute itself is focused around its mission in developing the e-community; this means that because of the constant change and new development in the e-commerce area up to date books are vital for research and further development. Turn It In
TurnitinUK is an online service which compares student assignments with online sources including web pages, databases of reference material, and content previously submitted by other users across the UK.
The software makes no decision as to whether plagiarism has occurred; it is simply a tool which highlights sections of text that have been found in other sources. The assignment which has been submitted to TurnitinUK and an Originality Report (the report which identifies the text matches found) are displayed for the member of staff to view. The member of staff can see whether resources have been appropriately referenced and hence whether plagiarism has occurred. You will be able to view your own Originality Report only if the member of staff enables this.
