B|I|T|E’s Mark Winfield talks with Radio New Zealand

BITE’s Mark Winfield talks with Radio New Zealand about studying the ancient papyri of Zenon, a government official in the early Ptolemaic period from the first half of the third century BC - and you thought business was tough today! (duration: 21′41″)

Listen

Mark Winfield is interviewed on New Zealand Radio about The Archive of Zenon, a collection of about 2,000 papyri which form the archives of a businessman and beauraucrat in Ptolemaic Egypt in the 3rd century BC.  The interview discusses what his world was like and about his life as a Greek from Asia Minor working in the service of the Finance Minister.  He spent much time managing a large private estate and whilst generally regarded as a successful businessman the records show that he was often embroiled in problems which would be quite familiar to managers today.

A VISIT TO SHEFFIELD UNIVERSITY

On the 10h January 2011, CMI staff (Jamsith Azeez, Programme Manager and other CMI Lecturers:  Wilfrid Flanda, Ayaz Mehmood, Ummar Sheriff, Elisha Kwasi Anti) visited Sheffield University for their Fifth Annual University of Learning and Teaching Conference. The aim of the visit was to participate in their Learning and Teaching development in order to expand our scope of teaching and learning style. This aim was in line with their topic “Identifying what we offer: preparing students to move on” which was designed to identify the teaching style of lecturers to meet the learning requirements of students in order to fit into modern organisations. Our modern world requires students to have a bundle of skills before any organisation gives them an opportunity to be part or work with them. For this reason, it is important to have and practice the relevant teaching and learning skills which will equip students to move on to the next level after their graduation.
